United
A group of armed thieves canvas the Diamond Exchange in Washington,
D.C. from a parked car down the street. They watch the building
as two Brink guards exit the store and drive off. With precision,
the assailants launch into action, pulling masks over their faces.
A muscular man, armed with grenades taped to his vest with the pins
linked together with a trip-wire wrapped around a wooden handle,
enters the store. As a store security guard heroically makes a dive
for the attacker he grabs the trip-wire and the store front erupts
in a massive explosion.
Triggered by the blast, a near by tanker truck filled with a deadly
acid compound explodes killing 86 people, including 11 delegates
from North Korea in town for peace talks.
Back at Never-Never Land, the back step team evaluates the disaster.
Frank Parker (Jonathan LaPaglia) wants to take the mission. Talmadge
(Alan Scarfe) acknowledges the seven day window is about to close.
While Parker suits up for the mission Olga (Justina Vail) tries
to convince him not to go - he goes anyway.
Parker arrives in Washington, D.C. back seven days in time. He
alerts everyone at the command center about his arrival and warns
them of the disastrous explosion. He races to the Diamond Exchange,
arriving just in time to see the thieves walking into the store.
Parker hears sirens, and realizing the police won't get there in
time, pulls out a gun and runs toward the store.
Across the street Parker's ex-wife Patricia (Jenna Lyn Ward) and
her fianc Mike (John Allen Nelson) walk out of a jewelry store
with Jimmy (Roland Gibbons), Parker's son. They notice Parker running
across the street. Mike, an American hero who single-handedly rescued
a couple of downed pilots in Angola, sees Parker running into trouble
and follows him.
Through the store front window, Parker sees the guard on the floor
getting ready to make his fatal leap. As Parker runs toward the
door, he looks back to see Mike following him. He tries to yell
a warning, but it's too late. As Mike runs across the street, the
get-away car hits him. Parker wants to help, but he doesn't have
time. Inside the Diamond Exchange, Parker knocks the armed man to
the floor and shoots his accomplice in the arm, who then drops his
gun before the guard grabs the trip-wire.
From inside the store, Parker turns to see a tanker truck idling
in front. At first, Parker thinks the truck is part of the conspiracy,
but after approaching the truck he sees the driver giving Mike CPR.
It is too late. Parker is sickened to see Patricia and Jimmy devastated
and crying.
Following Mike's funeral, Parker unsuccessfully attempts to console
Patricia and Jimmy. He returns to the base feeling he has to change
the course of events again. Parker sneaks out of his quarters and
goes to the sphere hangar to start up the time traveling sphere.
Talmadge hears the intruder alarm sound and reprimands Parker; even
though he knows the mission put Parker in tough situation.
Later that night, Talmadge assembles the back step team for a
briefing and is adamant about removing Parker from the program.
Mentnor (Norman Lloyd), Ballard (Sam Whipple) and Olga come to his
defense. Under house arrest, Parker sits in his room surrounded
by his thoughts. Mentnor enters and much to Parker's surprise tells
him to suit up; he is going back in time again.
Again, seven days earlier, Parker warns everyone in the control
room about the massive explosion. He rushes toward the Diamond Exchange;
however, this time the Brinks truck pulls around the corner and
stops in front of the store. Parker notices the time on the clock
and realizes he doesn't have time to waste. He sees the tanker truck
at a near by gas station, runs over, jumps in the driver's seat
and takes off.
Across the street Mike, Patricia and Jimmy walk out of the jewelry
store. Mike notices through the window of the Diamond Exchange there
is trouble brewing. The get-away driver sees Mike making his way
toward the store and starts driving toward him. Patricia tries to
warn him, but he doesn't have time to get out of the way. Suddenly,
out of nowhere comes Parker, in the tanker truck. He rams into the
get-away car, crushing it and pushing it out of the road. After
saving Mike's life, Parker hears emergency sirens, jumps out of
the cab with his pistol drawn and starts running toward the Diamond
Exchange.
Parker bursts through the door. The guard on the floor is ready
to make his devastating move, but Parker manages to grab the safety
levers of the grenades just in time. Everyone is safe.
Parker stands on the curb of the First Congregational Church while
the media wait patiently outside closed doors. Although he remembers
the funeral and the pain he felt, he is now feeling a different
kind of pain. As the church doors open, Mike and Patricia walk outside
as man and wife.
